When you open the Brooklyn Beer Making Kit, you will find almost everything that you’ll need to make a batch of beer from one of their recipes. This kit includes:
- 1 gallon glass fermenter
- Tubing clamp
- Stopper & blowoff attachment
The Brooklyn beer kit is a great choice for any new brewer, especially if you’re on a budget. With the addition of a few items, most of which you can find around your house, you’ll be well on your way to making a really good batch of beer.
Brooklyn homebrew advertises itself as being a great, apartment friendly, solution to creating your own beer. According to them, using the Brooklyn beer system, you’ll be able to take home brewing out of the garage or basement and into a kitchen of any size; and I agree with them. The fact that the ingredients and materials provided in the kit are designed to make a 1 gallon batch of beer means you’ll be able to manage making it no matter how big or small your kitchen is.
The one gallon size of the batch that you’re able to make can be a good or a bad thing, it mostly depends on your brewing needs. If this is the first time you’re brewing beer and you’re not completely sure how it’ll go and you just want to get your feet wet, so to say, one gallon is a perfect size. If you have brewed before, but not large quantities, and you want to try something new, this also would be a good size for you. On the other hand, if you’re someone who is an avid brewer and you like to make large quantities of beer, this probably isn’t something you’d want.
If you’re happy with the beer you made using this kit and you want to make it again, or if you want to try another one of the Brooklyn home brews, all of the equipment provided is reusable. When you’re ready to make your next batch, you don’t have to buy another full kit, you can just buy another set of ingredients and make it all in the fermenter using the tools provided in the original kit.
If, after you’ve made a few batches of beer using the Brooklyn brewing kit, you decide to purchase the equipment to make larger quantities of beer you can still use some of their equipment. The thermometer can continually be used for all of your brews going forward, and the tubing and clamps should hold up just fine. Also, the one gallon fermenter can double as a growler for the convenient transportation of your beer.
The major downside with this kit is the fact that there are a couple of items that are needed, but aren’t included. Most of these items can be found around the house, but some may not be. You’re going to need a pot for boiling the ingredients, a mesh strainer to separate your wort from the solid ingredients, a funnel for getting your wort into the fermenter, and some bottles for bottling, carbonating, and serving.
As I mentioned, some of these things you’ll be able to find around the house already, but be sure you have everything before you start brewing with the Brooklyn brew kit. You don’t want to get to a step in the brewing process and then realize you can’t move forward because you’re missing something; you’ll end up having to get rid of that batch and start all over. Fortunately, all of the instructions that come with the kits clearly state what items (and ingredients if applicable) you’ll need in addition to what’s provided.
In conclusion, this is a great kit for any aspiring brewer. You’ll get detailed instructions on how to brew the beer as well as the majority of the materials needed. Once you add the few materials needed that aren’t included, you’ll be in a great position to make a really good batch of beer.
If, for some reason, you aren’t satisfied with the beer that you produce, you aren’t stuck with a very large quantity and you can begin the process of making a new batch very shortly using the materials that you now own. With it’s affordable price, and the fact that you can use all of the materials for your future brews, you’re getting a great value with the Brooklyn brewing kit. It also makes a great gift for the homebrewer and/or beer lover in your family.
